MIAMI, FL - VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, today announced that Regional Medical Director Alen Voskanian, M.D., has received the Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Physicians Award in recognition of his clinical contributions, commitment and passion for the cause of end-of-life care.

The Hastings Center, a nonpartisan bioethics research institution founded in 1969, presents these coveted awards every year to only five physicians nationwide who have demonstrated their care of patients to be “exemplary, a model of good medicine for other physicians and a great benefit in advancing end-of-life care as a continued role of the doctor-patient relationship,” according to its website.

Dr. Voskanian, board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine, joined VITAS in 2007 as a team physician and then became medical director of its Coastal Cities, Calif., program. He was named to the VITAS Leadership Council in 2010 and promoted to Regional Medical Director in 2012.

“Dr. Voskanian truly deserves this prestigious recognition, as he is an outstanding physician who has provided not only exemplary care to our patients and their families but has also served as a role model to hospice physicians and clinicians,” said Joel Policzer, M.D., VITAS senior vice president and national medical director. “We are proud that Dr. Voskanian is part of the VITAS family.”

Dr. Voskanian earned his medical degree in 2000 from the University of California, in Irvine, Calif., and completed a residency program in 2003 at the University of California in Los Angeles.
