VITAS Appoints Denis Bouvier, D.O., as Medical Director in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Feb. 17, 2015 – VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, recently announced that Denis Bouvier, D.O., has been appointed Medical Director in San Francisco.

Board certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, Dr. Bouvier has 30 years of medical experience and 20 years of experience working in community-based hospice programs. In addition to his current work at VITAS, Dr. Bouvier also works as a consultant at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, where he specializes in palliative care and medical ethics. Earlier in his career at St. Mary’s, he served as medical director for its AIDS hospice unit. Prior to that, he served as a general medicine physician for Kaiser Permanente’s urgent care clinic in San Francisco. He also served as medical director at Pathways Hospice in South San Francisco.

Dr. Bouvier earned a bachelor’s degree in 1974 from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and a medical degree in 1984 from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.
