Miami, FL – October 18, 2017 – VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, announced that VITAS Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President Patrick Hale has been named one of the top South Florida’s chief information officers for 2017 by the South Florida Business Journal in its large-company category.

Each year, the Journal recognizes exceptional CIOs from small, medium, and large companies in South Florida. The CIO Awards honors chief information officers who lead their organizations in delivering business value and innovative use of IT in the private company sector and the public company sector.

Patrick believes energy and passion are the essential ingredients for his success as VITAS CIO/EVP. “At VITAS IT, we want to change the world by offering a level of care far beyond what exists anywhere else,” said Patrick upon accepting his award at the Journal’s award ceremony.

Patrick credits his team for making that goal a real possibility: “My team is everything. My direct reports are passionate about the changes we are making; we have productive debates in our management meetings, but at the end of the day we come together with 100 percent commitment.”

“Patrick is a consummate problem solver. The combination of his compassion and drive to bring technological solutions to our employees and partners that improve the patient and family experience has been extraordinary,” says VITAS CEO Nick Westfall.

Patrick joined VITAS in 2013 and has worked in leadership roles in the information technology field for more than 20 years. Prior to joining VITAS, he served as chief technology officer of Sparrow Health System, the premier healthcare provider in mid-Michigan for cancer, pediatrics, neurology, trauma and neonatal intensive care, which supports nearly 500,000 outpatient procedures and 100,000 emergency room visits per year. Under Patrick’s IT leadership, Sparrow Health was named “Top Healthcare Industry Innovator” in the 2012 InformationWeek 500.

A noted thought-leader, Patrick is a sought-after speaker for national conferences and events, including the federal government’s CIO Summit, the National Association of State CIOs and the CIO Leadership Network. He is also the recipient of numerous awards and accolades.

Patrick is past co-chair of the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association’s HIT Committee and is a current Board Member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for South Florida.
