VITAS Honors Hospice Chaplains During Spiritual Care Week in October

10/21/2018

Making the most of the time we have. That is the goal of hospice and the theme of Spiritual Care Week 2018, celebrated October 21–27 by VITAS and other healthcare organizations and institutions around the world.

The internationally designated event honors chaplains and pastoral care counselors, educators and providers for their spiritual ministries and the positive impact they make in people’s lives.

In particular, VITAS celebrates hospice chaplains, critical members of an interdisciplinary team that focused on quality of life at the end of life. Chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support that many hospice patients and their families need during their final months, weeks and days together.

The 2018 theme for Spiritual Care Week is “Hospitality: Cultivating Time,” a recognition of the importance of taking time to deepen connections, nurture relationships and address the underlying concerns and emotions that arise near the end of life.
